ABOUT US

Mount Hallowell Stud is a top end boutique thoroughbred horse stud, situated on a picturesque property in Western Australia’s south west town of Denmark.

Owner, Craig Thompson, purchased the property in 2005 when it was still a vineyard.

In 2008, Craig decided it was time to take a new direction so the vines were removed to make way for horse paddocks to enable his passion for horse racing and breeding to be developed.

The rolling hills and grassy paddocks are perfect for the regeneration of older horses and the development of younger horses.

Our pastures are continuously being improved with the assistance of the regions high rain fall, regular soil testing and the use of specially developed organic fertilisers.

Our experienced team led by Stud Manager, Katrin Nomme and her partner Ahti, live on the property which ensures all our horses receive the utmost care and attention seven days a week to fulfil their potential.

Over the past nine years the Stud has steadily grown and we now have an exceptional stock of horses with an equal emphasis on racing and breeding.

It is our aim to retain only quality producing broodmares who have been mated to headline sires the likes of Fastnet Rock, More Than Ready, Lonhro, Bernadini, Teofilo, Starcraft, All American and Master Of Design.

While Mt Hallowell Stud is in its formative years it has already achieved significant success on the race track with the crowning of Luke’s Luck as the 2011 – 2012 WAROA Champion 2-Year-Old after winning the elusive double, the Group 2 Ausdrill Karrakatta Plate and the Group 3 WA Sires Produce.

King Saul has also achieved great results winning the 2011 Group 2 WA Guineas and finishing a creditable 3rd in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic in open company. These accomplishments saw King Saul nominated for the 2011 – 2012 WAROA Champion 3-Year-Old, where he narrowly missed out on the title in an extremely tight contest.

Under the guidance of leading Australian trainer, Gai Waterhouse, Hallowell Belle ended her career with wins in the Group 2 Gilgai and Baguette Stakes and the Listed Darby Munro Stakes.  She finished an unlucky third to Master Of Design in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick and also third to Mental in the G1 Patinack Classic.

Possibly two of her most memorable performances was when she chased the great Sepoy home in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes and the G2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington.

Her final career statistics were 19 starts 3-6-7 with Stake money of $913,000.

Hallowell Belle had her first foal in 2014 to Champion Sire Fastnet Rock and was sold in foal to More Than Ready to Vinery Stud for a substantial price in July 2016.

The Offer won the Group 1 Sydney Cup in 2014, G2 Chairman's Cup and the G3 Manion Cup following his win in the 2013 Ballarat Cup.

Waterhouse has also played an important role for Mount Hallowell Stud, guiding the former French entire Pornichet to an amazing 2 3/4 length romp of the 2015 Group 1 $655,500 Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane in May.

This exciting win complimented two previous Group 3 victories after arriving in Australia in the Sandown Stakes and the Neville Selwood Stakes plus the Toowoomba Cup before finishing fourth to superstar Winx in the 2015 Cox Plate.

The entire was subsequently injured before campaigning unsuccessfully in Perth.  He was later sold to stand at stud in China.

The Waterhouse/Bott combination have the latest Mount Hallowell Stud top-liner in Sebring three-year-old Gold Standard the winner of the G2 Stan Fox Stakes in brilliant fashion.

She has also produced the exciting I Am Invincible two-year-old Santos for a promising debut third in the Listed Breeders Stakes at Randwick and he has obvious Group potential.

In 2016 exciting 3 Year Old’s Saul’s Special (Fairetha Stakes winner) and Lusaha (Lee Steere Classic winner) were amongst the best horses of their generation in Perth.

Lusaha by More Than Ready out of Rose Of Hallowell became the first Stakes winner bred on the Stud when he won the Listed Lee Steere Classic (1400m) at Ascot in December 2016.

Mount Hallowell Stud has also partnered with Australian Bloodstock and purchased a sharing in a recent Melbourne winner Brave Smash and a massive third place in the $12 million Everest (1200m).

Mt Hallowell Stud is committed to giving back to the local community and are sponsors of Perth Racing, Albany Racing Club and Denmark Bowling Club.

Our mission at Mt Hallowell Stud is to breed and race at the highest level in Australia.
